Services

The PRiSMa Lab is open to the public and offers the following services:

- Material testing

- Special testing

- In situ testing

Material testing

The PRiSMa Lab is an Official Laboratory according to the provisions of the Italian law 1086/71 and in this guise it executes quality and acceptation controls on the materials employed in the construction of new structures and experimental tests for the evaluation of the mechanical characteristics of materials coming from existing structures.

The PRiSMa Lab performs:

- tests on concrete or mortar specimens;

- tests on steel specimens (reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete or steel carpentry);

- tests on bricks, perforated bricks and on stone specimens;

- tests on composite materials.

The costumer's request can be forwarded downloading and editing the application form  that must be signed and stumped from the construction manager.

Special testing

The PRiSMa Lab executes special tests on structural components and on scaled models

Some examples:

- load tests on beams (shear and/or bending);

- simple compression or diagonal compression tests on masonry panels;

- static or dynamic tests on scaled models.

The PRiSMa Lab also implements and executes special tests at the request of the costumer.

It is possible to ask a quotation calculated on the basis of the price list where are given the hourly or the daily prices of the equipment and the staff.

If the requested tests are scientifically significant, a contract between the department and the costumer may be subscribed.

In situ testing

The PRiSMa Lab organizes experimental campaigns directly on site in order to evaluate the mechanical characteristics of the existing structures. 

The PRiSMa Lab executes:

- Core drilling;

- Determination of carbonation penetration in concrete;

- Rebound hammer;

- Ultrasonic pulse velocity testing;

- Combined method SonReb (ultrasonic pulse velocity + rebound hammer);

- Rebar location in concrete and collecting of steel specimens.

- Flat jacks for masonry

- Penetrometric investigations on existing mortars
